Leading building science centre BRE Group recently released LINA 2.0 - an enhanced version of the LCA tool LINA. LINA is a life cycle assessment tool that enables companies and trade associations to assess their products in line with EN 15804, the European Standard for Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) for construction products. LINA 1.0 was launched in 2016. LINA 2.0 incorporates critical improvements to the user interface, updates to the calculation steps in the inner workings of the tool, and an expanded datamatrix covering a wider range of input and output flows.

A watershed study of a circular economy in South Australia was recently released. The report evaluates the potential benefits of circular economy in terms of job creation, greenhouse gas emissions and energy, if South Australia were to transition to a more circular economy by 2030. The report blended the results from the environmentally extended input-output modelling with international and local case studies to demonstrate how a circular economy could benefit the development of the state whilst contributing to carbon emission reduction targets and supporting energy independence.

The Australasian EPD Programme was launched in 2014 to provide a trans-Tasman platform for communicating credible environmental information. The programme is a joint venture between the Life Cycle Association of New Zealand (LCANZ) and the Australian Life Cycle Assessment Society (ALCAS) and is aligned with the International EPD® System.

The projected rise in food-related greenhouse gas emissions could seriously impede efforts to limit global warming to acceptable levels. Despite that, food production and consumption have long been excluded from climate policies. The recently published paper Mitigation Potential and Global Health Impacts from Emissions Pricing of Food Commodities discusses ideas to mitigate risk associated with food production.
