    ISO Water Footprint Technical Report published giving examples of water footprint studies

    The New Zealand International Review Group (IRG) made a major contribution to the development of the ISO Water Footprint standard (ISO 14046). A new guide, the ISO/TR 14073:2017 on "Environmental management -- Water footprint -- Illustrative examples on how to apply ISO 14046", has recently been published. It provides illustrative examples of how to apply ISO 14046 in order to assess the water footprint of products, processes and organizations based on life cycle assessment.

    New publication on Hotspots Analysis with methodology and guidance now available for download

    The new Hotspots Analysis methodological framework that is now available for download, provides information that is of use to those wishing to commission or carry out a hotspots analysis in a life cycle context. It aims to provide a consistent approach to hotspots analysis.

    BRE launches enhanced version of life cycle assessment tool LINA

    Leading building science centre BRE Group recently released LINA 2.0 - an enhanced version of the LCA tool LINA. LINA is a life cycle assessment tool that enables companies and trade associations to assess their products in line with EN 15804, the European Standard for Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) for construction products. LINA 1.0 was launched in 2016. LINA 2.0 incorporates critical improvements to the user interface, updates to the calculation steps in the inner workings of the tool, and an expanded datamatrix covering a wider range of input and output flows.

    South Australian Circular Economy report released

    A watershed study of a circular economy in South Australia was recently released. The report evaluates the potential benefits of circular economy in terms of job creation, greenhouse gas emissions and energy, if South Australia were to transition to a more circular economy by 2030. The report blended the results from the environmentally extended input-output modelling with international and local case studies to demonstrate how a circular economy could benefit the development of the state whilst contributing to carbon emission reduction targets and supporting energy independence.

    The Australasian EPD Programme was launched in 2014 to provide a trans-Tasman platform for communicating credible environmental information. The programme is a joint venture between the Life Cycle Association of New Zealand (LCANZ) and the Australian Life Cycle Assessment Society (ALCAS) and is aligned with the International EPD® System.
