Enviro says rCB can cut emissions by over 80%
Scandinavian Enviro Systems (Enviro) has issued study findings showing that major reductions in CO2 emissions can be achieved by using recovered carbon black (rCB), produced from waste tyres instead of virgin carbon black. The life-cycle analysis by the IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute, using Enviro’s rCB, found that the material can cut carbon emissions by 79-84%. The study showed that for each kilo of rCB that replaced virgin carbon black, total CO2 emissions were reduced by 1.43-2.00 kg. This means that a replacement of 9 kilotonnes of virgin carbon black with rCB reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 12,900-18,000 tonnes. “The whole industry is looking for materials to reduce the impact on the climate,” said Thomas Sörensson, CEO of Enviro.
