New LCA Research points to U.S. successes with livestock emissions
Research out of Colorado State University suggests that better land management practices globally can help the livestock industry reduce greenhouse gas emissions. But while the science pointed to a significant reduction in GHG through rotational grazing in many cattle systems, the efficiency strategies they examined were not as successful in the U.S. studies. Why? Because the researchers suspect that U.S. ranchers are already in the top tier of using the most environmentally effective strategies. Overall, the team performed a comprehensive assessment of 12 different strategies for reducing beef production emissions worldwide and published the results, titled ‘Reducing Climate Impacts of Beef Production: A synthesis of life cycle assessments across management systems and global regions’, in Global Change Biology.
